Biography
Michael Turay, baritone, is a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He most recently played Fred, Scrooge's nephew,
in A Christmas Carol with Personal Space Theatrics in New York City. During 2006-07,
he toured the US with the national Broadway tour of Wonderful Town in the role of Officer Lonigan
and the understudy of Bob Baker. Prior to that, he was an ensemble member in The Night of the Hunter
which was part of the New York Musical Theater Festival. In early 2006, he made his New York City debut
in Hell, The Opera.
He was seen as The Pilot in The Little Prince and Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, both
with the University of Kentucky Opera Theatre in 2005. In the summer of 2004, he premiered the role of
Johnny Appleseed in the inaugural season of the outdoor drama Johnny Appleseed in Mansfield, Ohio.
In the fall of 2003, Michael co-produced and starred in a theatrical recital featuring American music from
musical theater, opera and vaudeville.
Other notable roles include the swing/jazz dancer, Dick McGann, in Weill's Street Scene, Carl-Magnus
in Sondheim's A Little Night Music, The Pirate King in Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of
Penzance and Harold Hill in Willson's The Music Man. Michael can be heard on the
internationally-released recording of the University of Kentucky Opera Theatre's The Tender Land in
the role of Top.
He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Kentucky.
